Metro Apps don't open on Local and Domain account. Works on Microsoft Live account. Windows 8.1 Pro

This is Happening on Three different computers.

All computers are Windows 8.1 Pro. This is a clean install.

When the computer is initially setup, I first sign on with my Windows Live ID and everything seems to work fine there.

After Joining the computer to the domain, none of the Metro UI apps will open, they open briefly and close.

Added a local account and found that it also does not work there.

Steps I have tried to resolve this:

Modified owner and permissions on registry Key: HKCR\AppID\{3EB3C877-1F16-487C-9050-104DBCD66683}

Changed owner to Local Administrator and gave full controll to Local Admin and Domain user account.

Ran DCOMCNFG and under Computers ->My Computer-> WinInetCacheServer Properties I went to the IDENTITY TAB and changed it to the Interactive User.

That did not help.

Ran this command: "powershell -ExecutionPolicy Unrestricted Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register $Env:SystemRoot\WinStore\AppxManifest.xml" from elevated command prompt and also did not help.

I tried downloading the App troubleshooter but it would not run.

I also tried "wsreset.exe" and got an error saying: " Windows cannot find 'ms-windows-storePurgeCaches'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again"

When Trying to open the app and it fails I get this error under Applications in Event Viewer:

"Activation of app winstore_cw5n1h2txyewy!Windows.Store failed with error: This app does not support the contract specified or is not installed. See the Microsoft-Windows-TWinUI/Operational log for additional information."

Anyone know how to resolve this.

We are looking to implement Windows 8.1 Pro to our clients pretty soon and need to get this resolved asap.

Thanks

hidden power menu disabled

Windows 8 has a hidden set of menus. When in desktop mode you can place the cursor in the lower left corner, at which time the start menu opens after you click.

If you right click you get an option for, " run, control panel, command prompt, etc." I have found that after a program installation this menu no longer function." Can someone tell me if there is going to be a patch for this. I've talked with several others that have also experienced this.

Preparing to update to Windows 8.1 - Can't get the KB2871389 update

So I've read a lot about Windows 8.1 and I decided to update to it from my Windows 8 Pro. As instructed by many articles online, I should have been able to update through the Windows Store. That was not the case in my computer... I couldn't find the update in Windows Store, so I went to find out why. I read that I must have the KB2871389update in order to prepare my system for the 8.1 update. So far so good.

The actual problem:

I went to Windows Update to start the important updates, but it simply wouldn't start downloading the updates. The download percentage was stuck at 0 and the green loader was just rolling in place, doing nothing. I left it rotate like that for around 20 minutes then I cancelled it. My internet speed is fast enough to at least have the update start downloading and see some progress. Then I went online and looked up the KB2871389update. I downloaded the standalone installer (Windows Update Standalone Installer) and then boom! It gave me an error. The error said that theExecution failed and the error code was 0x8008005. I tried running the Windows Update Troubleshooter and these were the results:

Rebuilding OEM device with Volume License image

Hello,

I built a Windows 8 Pro device with Volume License media to allow people in the organisation to evaluate but now I want to return this to its original state so it can be given to charity.

I have tried rebuilding this using a default media VL USB stick but it doesn't seem to be able to pick up the OEM product key that I assume is stored in the BIOS.

Do I need to rebuild this device using OEM/Retail media for it to detect the built in key or is there another way to do this using the VL media I already have?

Many thanks,

Tony

update from windows 8 to 8.1, my driver is not registered into windows\system32\driverstore

In windows 8, I have a windows file system driver which is signed by microsoft. It works fine. And I notice that there is a folder for my driver in the folder Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\

But, after I update my windows 8 to 8.1, the driver can not be loaded and windows complains that the driver is not signed. And there is no folder for my driver any longer in the folder Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\

Does anybody know what's the reason that 8.1 doesn't remain my driver files in the folder Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository?

How do I upgrade to Windows 8.1?

I have Windows 8 Pro OEM on my laptop and am trying to upgrade to 8.1. I have ensured that the laptop has all of the latest patches, it tells me that there is nothing to upgrade now.

I ensure that I am logged in with my MS account and then go to the Store and click on  the free upgrade. I then click on Download after 30 seconds or so the download fails. If I click on Details it tells me that I am not connected to the internet when clearly I am as all of the other Apps work ok.

What am I missing?

VAMT 3.0 on SBS2011

$

Hi there,

I'm attempting to get VAMT 3.0 to work properly in my particular network setup. I've installed VAMT 3.0 on my Windows SBS 2011 server. I can add computers to the Products list (using the Discover Products dialog/Search for computers in the Active Directory => VAMT successfully detected x computers and added it to the products list), but attempting to update license status will have the following behaviours:

  • The local computer (SBS server) will work correctly.
  • All other clients will disappear from the Collecting Product Information dialog (leaving only my server.) Even with client computers online, the dialog will state "Completed 1 of 7", "Succeeded 1 of 1", "Failed 0 of 1". I do not know why this is inconsistent.
  • Clicking Close to dismiss the Collecting Product Information dialog will bring me back to the product window. The number of clients I have now fall to 2: the server which successfully verified; and one other client (seems to be the first in the list before). Online computers also disappear from the list.

Adding product keys would give me an error dialog indicating that "String or binary data would be truncated. The statement has been terminated." Hitting OK gives me the "x product keys were successfully verified and added to VAMT" but after dismissing the dialog the Product Keys pane is still empty. This seems like a database issue, and I've tried modifying the database to increase the length of the product key columns to no effect (I then just reset the database again before testing again to prevent other unforeseen effects).

So, as it stands, VAMT 3.0 is a no-op (albeit a big one!) for me. I've tried reinstalling VAMT, reinstalling the database instance (2008 R2 SP2 Express), deleting and re-creating the database, all to no avail. The computers which are online are reachable across TCP port 135.

Any pointers please? If this is the wrong forum, please redirect me to the appropriate place.

Thanks!
Joel

ApplicationErrorMessages-how to fix issue

$

Hello-just to be clear upfront-I am not very good at computer stuff so please excuse any terms etc. Today a blast of application errors have clogged up the computer and stopped it working. I have restored to a previous date, tried to stop error messages unsuccessfully temporarily (just so I can find the real issue) but it would not stop the messages-the error messages keeps shutting down any windows opened.

Its a windows 8 with McAfee protection-too scared to remove and try Windows Defender as I am not confident it is the answer. It all happened suddenly when printing off a picture online-but virus scan has picked up nothing. Nothing was installed in programs as a few of the tips suggest might be the case. Looked at many different solutions but is there anything specific for windows 8 please? Also caused communication error with Epson Workforce 545 printer. Application errors are growing and include Webfault,  Werfault, TOSRC manager, Onenotem, Dwwin so far.

Very frustrating-homework due, computer useless at this point-any help greatly appreciated please.

Thanks

Lisa

Running the Setup.exe from windows 8.1 source manually displays me error on screen, where as silent switch does not (windows 8.1 upgrade screen closes intermittently ). In case if I am willing to understand what went wrong for user OS upgrade, do I have logs located anywhere to check for my upgrade process ?

No Apps or Windows Store work after upgrading to Windows 8.1 Enterprise

Hello,

Upgraded from Windows 8 Enterprise to Windows 8.1 Enterprise.  Now none of my apps work, cannot even go into the Windows store to repair them.  All of the apps give me an error message of "This App Can't Open" while the PC Settings and Windows Store apps just open to a blank screen.  All Metro apps have a "X" mark on them. What I have already done:

1.  I already downloaded the app troubleshooter which didn't help.
2.  No use "contacting the app's publishers" since these are all native Windows apps.
3.  Tried refreshing, no help.
4.  System restore, no help.
5. I don't have a proxy on.
6. I've updated my graphics card to the most recent version.

This may sound naive but is there a way to "reinstall" the Windows store?  Can I download it from somewhere?  Please don't tell me to "reinstall or reset" Windows 8.1, that really isn't addressing the problem at all it is simply throwing the entire thing away and starting over.  There has got to be a way to "fix" these sorts of things aside from a clean reinstall, otherwise they shouldn't allow "upgrading" in the first place.

8.1 Pro upgrade FAILD 8020002E 80070003 80072F78

I am setting up a new test machine with Windows 8 Pro and it has been a disaster.  I only have the Windows 8 upgrade disc, not the full version.

First I tried to do a clean install on a new hard drive.  Everything installed, updated, I tried to upgrade to 8.1 after downloading exactly 2,527,825 KB it gives and error.  Claiming the app did not install for unknown reasons error 0x8020002E.  I realized the Windows did not activate, I tried to activate it and it would not work.  Apparently you can do a clean install from an update disc but you cannot activate it.

So I started over.  I installed Win 7 Pro, then installed Win 8 Pro.  Rebooted, updated everything, Activated, rebooted again for fun.  Tried to upgrade to Win 8.1 Pro, same error 0x8020002E after downloading exactly 2,527,825 KB.  This is getting frustrating.  Tried WSRESET, this does absolutely nothing.  It does not delete the 2.5 GB file, it also doesn't let the windows store know that I want to re-download it.  When I click upgrade to Win 8.1 Pro it asks me to click accept/download, jumps to the next screen shows it has been mostly downloaded and bam gives me the same error.  I tried the Windows Update Troubleshooter.  This finds a problem with windows updates, attempts to fix it and fails.  So another worthless tool.  At this point it would reset my ability to download Win 8.1 Pro.  I would start over, it downloads exactly 2,527,825 KB and gives me the exact same error.

I tried to stop the Windows Update Service, stop bits, delete the contents of C:\windows\softwaredistribution.  This helped a little, in a sense I could download the same exact partial file.  It gives the error and I then want to just install windows 7 and call it a day.

I found out there was a registry tweak that would allow a clean install from an upgrade disc.  I performed a clean install, I didn't even need to do the registry tweak because windows had already been activated.  Updated everything, reboot, update more etc.  Long story short same problem.  Same exact download, cuts out at the same exact point.

For some odd reason it has decided to do even weirder things.  After my 5-6th attempt to fix this on the current install it started giving me different error codes.  I started with 0x8020002E, then it moved to 0x80072F78, then it moved to 0x80070003. Now it no longer gives me an error, instead it lies and claims it installed.  In the windows store it says Upgrade to 8.1, I click it, click accept/download.  It flashes to the download screen, then it says "Your apps were installed". But in reality it was never installed, I am still on Win 8 Pro not 8.1 Pro.

Edit:  After running the windows update fix, it indicates an error 0x80070057 that it fails to fix.  I went through the manual steps, still did nothing.  There are about 10 DLLS that it would not register when going through the steps with various error msgs.

I also tried the link to download 8.1 to install it to a usb flash drive.  It accepts my product key under windows 8 but not under 8.1.

Does every upgrade from Windows 8 Pro to 8.1 Pro go this smooth?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Not able to install sysprepped Windows 8.1 image, an OfflineServicing error appears.

Hello

I have Windows 8.1Enterprise image failing at the end of the PE phase from aWDS Server. I´ve searching through every related post but nothing solves the issue. My scenario is similar to this one (http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/7ce4c49d-e8a4-460a-ae17-240daaf5f50e/deploying-a-win7-image-via-wds-fails-with-offlineservicing-error?forum=w7itproinstall), but with Windows 8.1 Enterprise instead.

Basically, I have sysprepped Windows 8.1 and capture the image successfully without any problem. Then, I´ve uploaded the image to my WDS without any unattend xml file, but when trying to install it I get the following error message after completing the "Expanding Windows Files" phase:

  • Windows could not apply unattend settings during pass [offlineServicing]

I´ve used the official image release, plus the only one partition disk is formatted before the installation. Every configuration seems to be set correctly. I wonder if there is any particular issue related to Windows 8.1.

I´ve already done this procedure with many other OS images and I´ve never got this error message.

Furthermore, I also tried to perform the installation with an empty unattend answer file attached to the deployed image, but the error still appears.

I wonder if the Win8.1 image needs a proper configuration of the unattend answer file, specially on thePass 2 of OfflineServicing. Unfortunately I don´t know how to configure it. I would like to keep the credentials and partition configuration be set manually.

Thank you for any help you can give me.
