Maintain separate Windows 8.1 and Windows XP roaming profiles?

Hi.

We are deploying Windows 8.1 with roaming profiles to about 100 users.  We want to create new Windows 8.1 roaming profiles for each user while maintaining their Windows XP profiles so they get the appropriate profile when logging into either OS.  The goal is to be able to demonstrate Windows 8.1 with the roaming profile for each user before the final cutover without changing their current Windows XP roaming profile.

If I create a new Win8 profile by logging the user on to a Win8 machine, it creates \\profileserver\username\profile and \\profileserver\username\profile.V2.  The V2 folder is empty.  If I copy their Windows XP folder into the profile.V2 folder they seem to get a combination of both profiles when logging into Windows XP.

Is there any way to maintain discrete roaming profiles for Windows 8.1 and Windows XP?
