I will try to describe what I did in as much detail and as clearly as possible, maybe someone can give me a clue.
I installed a Windows 8 professional 64 bit on a Hyper-V virtual machine. The ISO I used is a MSDN retail version:
en_windows_8_1_x64_dvd_2707217.iso
SHA1 checked and OK.
Windows installed without any problems.
I updated the OS with all available updates.
Run sysprep „Enter audit mode” to delete the temp user I used to install the os and the updates
Then sysprep again „OOBE”, generalize and shutdown.
Booted from a windows PE iso, captured the install.wim with DSIM.
Now comes the fun part. From the same iso used to install the virtual machine, en_windows_8_1_x64_dvd_2707217.iso, created a bootable USB. Tried to install windows 8.1 as it is on a computer, no problem, it works.
I then tried to replace the install.win from the original ISO with the one containing the updates (the one I created above).
When I try to install this time, After I enter the key, I get the „The product key entered does not match ...” error.
I added the ei.cfg to the USB drive. This time the error comes right after pressing the „install” button.
Where could be the problem?
