I have computer (computer A) with a Windows 8 Standard OEM license. I would like this computer to run Windows 8 Pro OEM, and move the Standard license to another computer (computer B).
Correct me if I'm wrong (and please confirm if I'm right), but as far as I've understood it the OEM licenses have changed from Windows 7 to Windows 8, and on Windows 8 they are no longer tied to the hardware. Therefore, I assume the license doesn't need the manufacturer's special disc or recovery drive to install. (This is not really an issue, since I have the DVD anyway.) The Windows 8 license should thus be free to move around, as long as it's only installed on one computer at the time and is activated online.
There should therefor be unproblematic to move the Windows 8 Standard license from computer A to computer B, so that I can install Windows 8 Pro on computer A. If this is true, could I just buy a Pro license, go to Control Panel on computer A and add this license with "Add features to Windows 8.1"? Will this Pro license then replace my Standard license, or will they co-exist somehow? Will the Standard license be free so that it can be moved to comptuer B after I have added a Pro license? I would rather avoid formatting computer A, but I will format computer B.
