I booted my Toshiba Windows 8.1 laptop last night. The loading of the log in screen seemed to take longer than normal. Once I entered my password (the user is linked with Microsoft account) it brough me to the start menu as normal. I noticed that almost all of my apps were missing: Weather, Mail, Sports, Music, Xbox Smartglass, News. Pretty much every app that was pre-installed on the machine. But it doesn't seem to end there. Some programs that were installed and that have a shortcut on my desktop no longer work either as it says the file file the shortcut refers to no longer exists.
Some apps that are still listed on the start page and in the "all apps" page simply do not work. When I attempt to open them, the screen goes black until I click or change to anything else by using the left side charm. After I click on the blank screen, it just re-loads the start screen.
I have not changed anything on the machine to cause this. And it seems it randomly did it on its own.
I went into System and Security in the Control Panel to try and do a system restore, but apparently even though they should have been on by default, all of the options were off and there were no restore points.
