Hi,
I recently (clean-)installed Win8.1 (and performed full updates) on a brand new motherboard (MSI FM2-A75MA-E35). This is from a streamlined DVD I bought on http://www.productkey.nl/; a site that I've used to uy Windows OS's before without any problems. Everything
seemed to work fine until we started putting some networking load (e.g. mTorrent) on the system. Speedtests (speedtest.net) dropped dramatically andafter a download they only returned to normal after a considerable time (i.e.hours). The same drop in speed happens sometimes after several hours of idle time BTW. Normal speed should be in the range of 90 Mbit/s down. Upspeed is normal (about 9 Mbit/s).
Done so far to exclude origin of this problem:
- Changed DNS to static (OpenDNS.org)
- Updated NIC-drivers to latest from Realtek
- Updated AMD-MB drivers to 14.4 package
- Installed separate NIC to see whether we had a hardware-problem. No difference (same Realtek NIC chipset BTW)
- Tested with a WiFi-dongle (Linksys)
- Put other PC's (with Vista or Win7) on the same router-port (or WiFi in case of a Win7 laptop) with the same cable. These perform absolutely normally.
- Tested with another speedtest-site
- Tested with another torrent-client
- Tweaked torrent clients to lower download speed to about 20 Mbit/s and tweaked other settings cf. the normal advice for mTorrent
Nothing seems to improve the networking performance. The system otherwise performs absolutely normally i.e. there a no other issues at all. The installed AV software (Bullguard Internet Security 2014) and Antimalware software (Malwarebytes) don't find any issues.
Any ideas?
Sincerely,
Rik Stigter
