Sysprep giving "fatal error" -- but *only* after updating Metro apps?

So, I have been working on my Windows 8 64-bit load set for about a month.  I'm on my 9th revision of this -- and it's the "good to go" load set (well, the 7th iteration was good to go -- the 9th revision has the 10/9/12 Windows updates on it.)

I am able to run sysprep on this image dozens of times without any fatal errors -- (this is the version containing the 10/9/12 Windows Updates.)

However, I noticed that "Store" indicated that there were 11 updates this morning on my reference load set machine.   I have not updated any Metro apps -- ever -- as I have been developing this load set.

I am able to install the updates (though only *10* updates actually show when I run this) and the Store icon shows "1" on it after I'm done installing the visible updates (even after multiple restarts...)

However any attempts to run sysprep *after* having installed these 10 Metro app updates -- results in a "fatal error".

Am I missing something really obvious here?  Or is this a new bug that perhaps some of you might be able to reproduce?
