All the other updates in the August 2014 release for Windows 8.1 with the Update...went on OK, but this one keeps failing.
I have done the SFC, no problem. DISM cleanup, OK, ran the online Windows Update troubleshooter multiple times (it claims to fix it every time), ran the Windows update troubleshooter from the Control Panel in Admin mode several times (it claims to fix the problem every time).
I do not know where to turn now. One question, as I have no particular need for IE11, if I turn that OFF, how badly will I hose up everything else? Or can I just excise the beast, since Microsoft now seems unable to update its products ongoing with any degree of success.
Let me say that in April 2014 I had to spend two days online with an Indian tech and we had to reinstall the OS completely...obliterating all my installed programs...and I don't want to have to do this again. I do not have any anti virus except the Microsoft one, and no other 3rd party security. So there's nothing to uninstall or turn off!
The windows log shows this curious entry for the failed attempt to put the fix on...
