Windows 8.1 Networking Issues

I use an ASUS Notebook computer.  When I purchased it one year ago, it had Windows 8 as the OS.  Last week I finally downloaded and upgraded to Windows 8.1.

Since the upgrade I am having a lot of networking issues.  I am repeatedly getting disconnected from the internet.  This is not an ISP connection issue.  I am able to stream Netflix to my ROKU without issues and my husband is not experiencing this issue with his laptop.

When I am disconnected, I check the Event Viewer logs and whenever this happens, the System log indicates a Warning that is described as DNS Client Event with Error Code 1014.  The detailed description this latest time indicated the following: "Name resolution for the name email.quantumworkplace.com timed out after none of the configured DNS servers responded."  However in other disconnect events with the same error code the name "email.quantumworkplace.com" is a variable entry.  Another example of an entry that is associated with the error is "win8.ipv6.microsoft.com" but there are many others.  This issue began after I upgraded to Windows 8.1.

In an effort to resolve the problem I contacted ASUS Support.  We (1) reset the BIOS; (2) disabled IPV6 connectivity; and (3) have installed what ASUS indicates is the latest device driver for the QUALCOMM Wireless Network Adapter installed in this device.  Despite these changes I am continuing to have the problem.

Technical Support Staff at ASUS indicates the next step is to do a "reset" of the OS back to the factory conditions.  I would consider resetting back to the last known good configuration, but am having trouble figuring out how to do that in 8.1.

And I would like to resolve the issue without taking this drastic a measure.  So...

I am wondering if anyone else has experienced similar problems and/or if anyone has suggestions regarding how I might resolve the problem.
