I have spent a lot of time and effort trying to get Easy Transfer to transfer files and settings from a Windows 7 Pro pc on a home network and homegroup to a new Windows 8.1 home premium pc connected to the same two networks.
Every time I receive the same error; domain name may not be connected.
The thing is that I don't have or want a domain name on my home network and don't have server software set up or any of that. This should be a simple transfer but I have spent over a day on it so far. If Easy Transfer actually does not work, it should be removed from Windows. It worked for me a couple years ago when moving between Windows 7 Pro pcs. But can't make it work with Windows 8.1
I have read on other forums that people are having the same problems. There are several proposed solutions but none of them work.
Thinking about trying the Windows 10, putting in a new hard drive and installing Windows 7 Pro or Linux.
Has anyone found a solution or is it simply that Easy Transfer does not work in Windows 8.1 Home Premium?
