Windows XP sports a "feature" in which USB Root Hubs periodically are checked for idleness and powered down to
save electricity. A local printer plugged into a USB jack will thus go offline. If it is the default printer
then the default flag is cleared on that printer. Upon realizing there is no longer a local printer available,
Windows XP goes searching for a network printer to replace it. Upon finding none, Windows XP is done.
Telephone Reader Administrator gets very upset when there is no default printer. Seehttp://telephonereader.com/
I wonder if this "feature" has been removed or revised in Windows releases subsequent to Windows XP. Anyone?
