Windows 8 vhdx Native Boot Can't Upgrade to 8.1

I have tried upgrading a Windows 8 machine running on a VHDX file to Windows 8.1 using a DVD burned from the Windows 8.1 Professional (64 bit) ISO file on TechNet and I get this:

which does not add any useful information.

Will there be a way to upgrade a Windows 8 installation which is running from a native boot vhdx file?
