Win 8.1 Pro default font settings

I have been reading up on the subject at hand while testing 8.1, and haven't found any acceptable answer as of this moment.  The problem seems to lie in the rendering of the MS Segoe UI font on the monitors (Dell Ultrasharp U3014's) we have deployed.  After having manually tuned everything via ClearType, turned off ClearType entirely, and tried every dpi scaling workaround suggested on the web to no avail. Updated all gpu drivers, anything I could think of. The default font is still slightly blurred as though a light Gaussian blur effect was applied. Not acceptable for a design studio that relies on accurate rendering...

Since none of the options available solved the problem, I noted in the meantime that some of the other font's I have at my disposal didn't render as abnormally, and decided to change the default font in the gui.  Except, that option isn't available any more under the C.P.?  Really?!?  No matter, I can force it through the registry I thought. Key word: thought. No change whatsoever was the result.

All in all, I'm wondering if these 25 license's are going to be pretty well useless for our workstations in the render farm, or if there is a workaround aside from keeping them all on win 7?  Thanks for any help you can give. :)
