Hi,
I'm trying to replace the HD with pre-installed window 8 in my one-month old Lenovo laptop to SSD. But how do I migrate window 8 from HD to SSD?
I've created a recovery USB disk. It includes the window 8 pre-install image partition in the HD. The USB recovery disk's total size is about 14GB.
Then I boot the laptop from the USB recovery disk, get into the DOS window, create the primary partition and format the SSD in NTFS. Cannot assign the drive letter C to the SSD, it's assigned to the USB disk.
Then I reboot the laptop, use the "Reset Your PC" option. But this ends up with the message "Unable to reset your pc. A required drive partition is missing."
When I check from the "diskpart" tool, drive C is still assigned to the USB drive. So I guess the missing drive partition is the SSD as drive C? But the drive letter C is automatically assigned to the USB drive when the system boots, is it really complaining about the drive C as the primary partition on SSD?
If the recovery does not work, what option do I have if the HD died (died once on my windows 7 machine)? Buy a new windows 8 license?
Thanks,
Harry
