Hardware: Asus A8NSLI Deluxe with built in Silicon Image 3114 RAID controller. OS on 75gb WD Raptor, Data on pair of Hitachi 1GB drive in RAID 1 array
Software: Windows 8 Pro
Upgraded from Windows 7 x64 to Windows 8 Pro. All went well. Everything mapped out including the RAID array. Used PC with minimal issues for about two weeks. Installed all required and optional Windows updates automatically.
About four or five days ago and Windows Update failed. It included many security updates for Windows 8 and Windows Office 2013. Upon investigation I noted the RAID array was no longer listed in Windows Explorer. I called up Device Manager and saw the SI Driver was still working properly and listed both Hitachi drives as attached and functioning properly. The Storage Management tool does not show the RAID array as available or even existing.
Thinking a previous install might have done something badly I rolled back using the last Restore Point. No change. I them tried to Repair Windows. No change. I then performed a reinstall of Windows 8. No change. I am contemplating wiping the OS on drive C; to start clean but as I don't know what happened am uncomfortable that it will just happen again.
Any suggestions appreciated.
