Unable to allocate unused space on a HD.

Hi,

I've had an issue with a hardrive in my system for a while now.  At first the drive would periodically shrink its active volume to 746.52Gb, dropping the remaining 2048Gb to unallocated space.

I eventually gave up on having it being a single volume and split it to the 746.52Gb it seemed to "want", and tried to allocate the rest to a single partition, however, it's left 746.51Gb as unallocated, and it won't let me extend either of the other 2 partitions (greyed out), or allocate the space to a seperate, new, partition, all the context menu options are greyed on when trying to interact with the unallocated space.

Does anyone know why this would be the case?  This originally occured under XP Pro 64bit, however has persisted under 7 Home and 8.1 Pro.
