can i use a recovery partition on a ssd

I'm really hoping someone can help! my pc from new was shipped with a recovery partition on a standard hdd. I've since bought a ssd my question is how do i install the os on to the ssd without losing the recovery partition. I'm not worried about preserving any data as have backed up everything and only want the os on my ssd with data staying on the normal hdd
