Dear All,
I have a AMD 2 64 bit Opteron based system with 80GB IDE HDD and a 250GB Sata.
I just got the beta version of Windows 8 and tried to install on to my system. Initially I disabled the SATA controller from the BIOS and tried to install the OS onto the 80 GB IDE raw HDD. The installer kept crashing everytime giving an error "Windows ran into some problem with your PC".
I first thought it was because the system was too old and not compatible with Windows 8, but then I tried to install the same onto the 250GB Sata HDD, and HURRAY!!!! The OS installed without a Hitch.
It just goes to prove that either the newer Microsoft OS does not regard a IDE HDD as a worthy platform to install itself on, or there is a major glitch in the installer that Microsoft has to look into.
