Is there a solution to set user account picture from Active Directory thumbnailPhoto attribute in Windows 8 (not Windows 7!) with a login script?

I added a photo of each user in Active Directory (attribute thumbnailPhoto) to use them as account picture. This worked well in Windows 7 using this solution: http://jacob.steenhagen.us/blog/2012/02/loading-a-windows-7-user-tile-using-the-picture-in-active-directory/
This does not work for Windows 8 since the handling of user account pictures has been modified. Does anyone know a solution to get this to work with Windows 8?
PS: Mac OS X uses the user account pictures from AD by default for mobile accounts on machines joined to the domain.
