can't install windows on my blank new replacement hard drive
The TV Screen is BLANK while using MIRACAST
I use a HP Envy M6 notebook with windows 8.1 and I'm able to connect to my Sony Bravia W802A TV which is "MIRACAST" certified I was able to use the feature seamlessly for the past two days and today when I tried to connect, this is what happens I connect to the TV using the charms Menu method , the TV displays the pin and after the connection takes place theTV display turns blank I can only hear the sound being played on my laptop through the TV speakers .I immediately tried to sort out the issue by toggling between the four "Project" options but it still doesn't show up .I tried re-installing the graphics driver but still no luck .And by the way, I was able to get it working until two days back .I don't understand what is stopping it to function like before I wanted to check weather the problem was on the receiver side so I did reset my TV and then tried still it doesn't show any picture but myTV connects perfectly with my android phone without any issues every time I tried So I did a system restore on my notebook yesterday and then tried connecting but still only sound no picture on my TV I can certainly see that I have the right hardware and software as it was working for that brief period of time. Any suggestions would be very helpful !!
Networking Issues after Upgrading to Windows 8.1
I have a Windows 8 desktop PC that is working fine with my network. I can browse the Internet fine using all major browsers etc. After upgrading to Windows 8.1 through the Windows Store I noticed that my wired networking was not working correctly. The status of the network does not change (i.e. it doesn't change to Limited Connectivity) however browsing to sites in Chrome, IE or Firefox doesn't work as well as Windows 8.
IE11 gives me the error "This page can't be displayed, make sure the web address is correct" and other browsers give a similar error. I normally have to refresh 2-3 times to get a new page to load, sometimes even more. Everything works fine from a laptop connected at the same time so it isn't an network issue with my provider.
I thought this might be a driver issue with the two on-board Marvell wired network adapters. I wasn't able to rollback the driver to older versions I found on the Internet. I then purchased another network card, Intel Desktop gigabit and the issue still persists with that adapter. I then tried a USB wireless adapter and the issue still persists using wifi with the wired adapters disabled. I tried a new network cable and no luck either. I also tried resetting the IP stack using the various netsh commands.
After that I thought I might try reset the Windows 8.1 PC, however that didn't work as I didn't have the restore image available as I upgraded from the Windows Store. I then tried installing Windows 8.1 fresh using a ISO with my Windows 8 key using some of the recent guides that are available. That all worked but it didn't fix the networking issues.
I re-installed Windows 8.0 and the networking is now fixed and back to working normal again. I'd like to try again but I think I will have the same problems. I can't imagine why this would be a driver issue as I tried 3 different network adapters and two installs of Windows 8.1. Any ideas what would be the cause of the Windows 8.1 issue?
Cannot Access BIOS or Boot Windows 8 After Changing UEFI BIOS to Legacy BIOS
I changed the BIOS settings from UEFI to Legacy BIOS when I was working on a problem. Now I can't even get into the BIOS (F2) or change the Boot Order (F12). All I get is an error "Operating System not found". I can boot with a Win7, Win8, or Win8,1 DVD. I suppose I could boot with just about anything else bootable as well.
The problem seems to be caused because it's set to Legacy BIOS and Secure Boot Manager as default #1 boot device. Legacy BIOS can't boot a Win8 drive that has been installed under UEFI (Secure Boot). I have to change the BIOS back to EUFI to boot the WIn8 drive, but the only way to change the BIOS is from within Win8. It's a very flawed way of doing things but it's the way it is.
Does anyone have any suggestions that they KNOW work. Please don't Google answers. I've already done that. And please (please) don't tell me to power on and press "F2" (or any other key) to go into BIOS. If I could do that I wouldn't be posting.
Once again, I cannot get into the BIOS without going into Windows first. I cannot load Windows because the install was done under UEFI. I cannot change from Legacy to UEFI because I can't get into the BIOS.
Windows 8.1 something happened and windows 8.1 Pro couldn't be installed.
After the release of windows 8.1 preview I attempted the installation of 8.1 preview which failed. I decided it wasn't worth the bother until it was officially released so I left it uninstalled.
After the official release of 8.1 yesterday I opened the store on my windows 8 PC and I was presented with the Windows 8.1 download. I selected this and attempted to install. this failed with the message "Something happened and Windows 8.1 Preview
failed to install" Whoops!
I clearly hadn't done my windows updates to update the store so I ran these updates and in my windows store was the Official windows 8.1 download.
Once downloaded it then fails saying "Something happened and windows 8.1 Pro couldn't be installed Please try again Error Code 0x80070003"
now im stuck with that. is there a way I can clear the downloaded files and have the store re-download them? where are the stores downloads kept?
im really stuck with this one....
Problem With Windows 8 Store
Fresh installation of Windows 8
Applied all patches (70 or 80)
Created user account Member of Super Users
Clicked on Windows Store Tile
Said there were a load of app updates
Selected all of them and said to install
One or two installed then three stopped saying they couldn't install. Three were still installing and the rest were pending.
Waited a long time and nothing progressed. Green bars in the same place. Right clicked on each one and selected stop installation. All of them stopped except for one which didn't show the bottom bar when it was right clicked on.
Closing the store (dragging top all the way down) and opening it again showed the same app installing (but it wasn't).
Signed out and restarted machine.
Go into store and nothing is shown as needing an update.
Computer is hardwired to router which is connected to a cable modem.
Is there someway to recheck for app updates?
Switch to local account - "Windows is already using that name"
Hi
I've upgraded from Windows 8 to 8.1 and stupidly created a Microsoft account during the upgrade procedure rather than using a local account (which is what I was using before). I want to go back to using the local account and have tried going to "Your Account" - "Disconnect" - "Switch to a local account". However, as I want everything to go back to how it was before I upgraded I've tried entering the same username as before but I keep getting the following message "Windows is already using that name. Please enter a different username". Is there anyway I can log into a local account using the same username as before or do I need to create a new username (and therefore a new account?).
Any help to make this problem go away would be much appreciated!

Dual Windows windows 8 Professional and Windows 8.1
Thanks in advance,
I had bought a windows 64 bit I-7 machine ,it had windows 8 basic already installed, which i had updated to windows 8.1 basic, but hyper V is not available on this OS. I have another windows 8 Professional OS which i want to install on the same machine so i can have hyper V( because of windows phone and store app developments). So Is it possible that
- i can install windows 8 Professional/Ultimate while already i have windows 8.1 on the machine.
- Any other way i can install Hyper V on windows 8.1 without upgrading to windows 8.1 professional or without spending more money, i dont want to upgrade my Windows 8 Professional to windows 8.1

Will Windows 8.1 update download resume after computer restarts?
Yesterday I started downloading 8.1 on a Windows 8 system for hours but it still wouldn't finish. I shut down the computer and tried to restart today hoping it would resume as I expect it works like Windows Update which would always resume, when restarts, from where it leaves off when computer shuts down. I restarted the Windows Store and there was no sign of anything has been partially downloaded.
Could it be clarified how the Windows Store download works? If the download cannot be interrupted, how long the 8.1 download would take. I understand the download is onlya little more than 3 gigabytes. I had downloaded some operating system software up to 2 gigabytes from Microsoft server, it didn't seem to take that long.
windows 8 pro upgrade to 8.1 but no Pro version
I have a Dell E7440 laptop that came with Windows 8 pro. I went to the Store and run the 8.1 upgrade. It took a long time but upgrade was success, but I found out it is not the pro version. Looks like Microsoft downgrade my version. I called Dell support and they told me to run a recovery and try again. I do not want to waste any other 6 to 8 hours. What is my option? Should I contact Microsoft and complaint?
Please help.

Sysprep fails in customed installed Windows 8 with Error " A fatal error occurred while trying to sysprep the machine "
Hi There,
I have a Lenovo x240 and i have installed a fresh copy of W8 on it (without any key since we install license keys individually). What i basically do is to download and run Lenovo System Update which downloads and installs chipset drivers automatically. Once this is completed i run sysprep with command: sysprep /generalize /oobe /shutdown (we do not use any answer file) and proceed to capture the image afterwards. This has been working fine with laptops/computers running Windows7. It is not the case with Windows 8 though.
I have check the setuperr file for errors and states that is failing to secure drivers (intel\openCl). Error is below:
Any suggestions on how to resolve this issue are greatly appreciate it.

Custom Windows 8.1 .WIM doesn't work via WDS, works OK manually
Hello,
I have a very peculiar situation; I've created a custom Windows 8.1 Enterprise x64 image, but when I deploy it using Windows Deployment Services on Windows Server 2012 R2, using the Windows 8.1 Enterprise x86 boot.wim as the Windows Deployment Services boot image, it deploys successfully, but malfunctions;
- it doesn't activate [against our KMS server]
- when a new user logs on, the process stalls; if you logoff then logon, Microsoft Office gives you a 1603 error.
- File Explorer [I think] doesn't work (apologies for vagueness; I absolutelywasn't expecting this and was somewhat floored by the symptoms)
HOWEVER, if I manually deploy the SAME .WIM image, copy in theSAME unattend.xml, and manually replace %MACHINEDOMAIN% and %MACHINENAME% with the right values, it works fine.
HOWEVER, I've already verified that Windows Deployment Services is working perfectly well because I've added the Windows 8.1 Enterprise x64 install.wim as an install image, and used the unattend.xml to automate it. In other words, with the install.wim from the .ISO, everything is working fine, but with a custom image, it malfunctions.
I don't know why it's malfunctioning; nothing looking like a root cause appears in any event logs. I have injected some drivers into my custom image, but these are for relatively obscure devices such as scanners and smart card readers, which aren't even on the computer I'm testing this on. The test computer would benefit fromchipset, video and network drivers, but the inbox ones work OK. In any event, they work fine when I manually deploy.
Have more-or-less replicated this on test machines that are virtual, desktop and laptop, so I have no reason to believe the target device is a factor.
For now, Windows Deployment Services doesn't have a client unattend file.
This is a very peculiar problem. My existing, production environment has
- Windows 7 Enterprise in a custom image
- Windows Server 2008 R2
- Windows Deployment Services
working perfectly, and was looking to maintain the same approach, but simply update it.
Would welcome your ideas.
Kind regards,
Anwar
Black Screen Windows 8
Got a new laptop with Windows 8 and was exploring. I think I went into settings and dialed down the brightness setting. My screen went black and I can't do anything. No shortcut keys, no mouse, no cursor, no Task Manager, nothing.
It's a brand new Lenovo Yoga 2. Please help. So far, this is NOT my favorite OS. It's not business user friendly and I have 30+ years in the field.
Upgraded to 8.1 now apps don't run
Is there a fix yet?
Windows 8 to 8.1 easier upgrade
A few things:
I am looking for an easier way to get from Windows 8 to 8.1 without having to use the store. Some OEM images (such as some dell images) do not provide the option to install 8.1 from the store despite installing all the recommended updates to 8 and resetting the store info as part of the troubleshooting steps. I had to resort to installing 8 from scratch and then updating to 8.1 from the store.
Furthermore, I find the fact that I cannot install 8.1 right off the bat using my Windows 8 key rather ridiculous.
Are there plans to address these issues so we do not have to resort to the Store or a time-consuming install any time soon? A simple service pack non-store installation would be nice despite the 3.9+ GB size.
VAMT 3.0 on Server 2012 Activating Windows 8.1 AD
I hope this is the right place to put this, sorry if its not!
On Server 2012, I added a Windows 8.1 KMS B key to the Product Keys node in VAMT 3.0. I then go to the Active Directory Based Activation "Online Activate Forest", choose the Key, the object name becomes:
"Win 8.1 RTM Enterprise;EnterpriseN;Professional;ProfessionalN Volume:CSVLK"
I hit Install key and after a wait, it fails with 0xC004F050
I looked it up.. it seems to mean that its an invalid key... I have seen that error with Server 2008R2 that needed a hotfix, but not with Server 2012!
I was able to put Office 2013 Volume license pack on the same server and get the key into AD, did I screw something up by doing that first?
Any ideas? I'm not sure what to try next
